The fabric used to create this outfit is called:
Isaiah Possum | By Isaiah Nagurrrgurrba
Isaiah has been a Yijan Artist since 2008. “He is animated, a great raconteur and his sense of humor and style is evident in his paintings. Isaiah is involved in the ceremonial life of the community and takes his obligations to family and traditional culture very seriously. The artist’s country is Marlkawo which is south-east of Oenpelli and his major Djang (Dreaming) is Yawk Yawk or female water spirits.
Possum is good tucker for people with toothache. The fur of the possum is used to make pillows for the children - it keeps them warm and stops them from rolling and going sleepwalking. Every night you can hear possums eating flowers and leaves.
About the dress maker:
My husband and daughter are Aboriginal; so it has always been important to me to teach Mia about her heritage, culture and family history. So I feel very honoured and proud to create this collection of clothing in collaboration with Miniland Dolls Australia and the launch of their new Australian Aboriginal Miniland dolls.
Children learn through play; so incorporating these new Australian Aboriginal Miniland dolls and this collection of clothing featuring Aboriginal artwork is an exciting step towards improving all children’s knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal history and culture.
